I wrote this story in 1999 in response to “Fury”, the dark and sinister episode of Star Trek: Voyager in which Kes returned. I barely remember it now, but I recall being displeased with the story and, to be honest, Voyager was my least favorite Star Trek series up to that point. As much as I love Kate Mulgrew and looked forward to a female captain, I felt the show itself was weaker than its predecessors, and that Star Trek had run out of impulse power. Still, I had a wonderful time writing “Q Meets Girl” and now, reading it almost 20 years later, I can see that my enthusiasm shines through.

Fan Fiction – Week XVIII – “Star Trek: Chasing Reflections”
One of the most popular episodes of the original Star Trek series was “Mirror, Mirror” in which Kirk, McCoy, Scotty, and Uhura switch places with their counterparts from a parallel universe where the peaceful United Federation of Planets does not exist. Rather, the malevolent Terran Empire conquers and murders its way to dominance with Starfleet as little more than its ruthless enforcers.
Though Star Trek: The Next Generation never revisited this concept on screen (but did so in one or two novels), Star Trek: Deep Space Nine aired five episodes involving the parallel universe. In 2001, I thought it would be interesting to go back in time to the command of Captain Christopher Pike (played by Jeffrey Hunter in the first Star Trek pilot, “The Cage”) to see how he and his crew would fare against their doppelgängers.

Fan Fiction – Week XIV – “Star Trek: Worlds of Doubt” Part III
In the conclusion to “Star Trek: Worlds of Doubt,” Kirk, Mitchell, and the rest of the landing party attempt to escape the collapsed caverns on Dreknor—and a squad of Voitaan soldiers bent on killing them—before the two planets collide. Aboard the Enterprise, Spock coordinates the evacuation of both worlds while determining how to rescue his captain and fellow crew members.
Next week, we venture to a galaxy far, far away in another three part story, “Star Wars: Pursuit of Force.”
Fan Fiction – Week XIII – “Star Trek: Worlds of Doubt” Part II
In the second act of “Star Trek: Worlds of Doubt,” Kirk and the Voitaan council begin to unravel the mystery behind the enigmatic aliens who have been abducting security and medical personnel from the research base on Dreknor.
Meanwhile, aboard the Enterprise, Sulu discovers that the narrow gravity well between the two planets is pulling them together on a collision course that will destroy them both.
